Chapter 2: The Man With the Phone

Part 2 ⬇️
The two officers looked at the phone, then at the woman still on the ground, then at the crowd surrounding them.
"Ma'am, we're going to need you to stand up slowly," the taller officer said.
The woman scrambled to her feet, smoothing her blazer with shaking hands.
Her composure was gone.
"She started it.
She was going to r\*b me — I was protecting myself."
"That's a lie!" someone in the crowd shouted.
"We all saw you grab her first!"
The teenager stood perfectly still, phone still raised.
One of the officers gently took it from her hand and turned to the woman.
"Is this your device, ma'am?"
"Yes.
Obviously.
It's mine."
"Can you unlock it for me right now?"
The woman's jaw tightened.
Her eyes dropped to the phone.
Then back to the officer.
Then to the crowd.
She said nothing.
The officer's expression didn't change.
"Ma'am.
Unlock the phone, please."
A long, terrible silence stretched across the courtyard.
Then a man near the back of the crowd raised his own phone.
"I recorded everything.
From the beginning.
Every single second."
The woman's face went pale.
The teenager finally looked away from her — and that's when she noticed something that made her stomach drop.
Sitting at a café table just ten feet away, watching the entire scene with cold, calculating eyes, was someone she recognized.
Someone who should not have been there.
