Chapter 2: The Signature That Wasn’t Hers

The businesswoman’s face went pale, but only for a moment.

“You?” she said, staring at the waitress.

“You expect us to believe you’re AVERY?”

Avery calmly removed her apron.

“You believed in my work when you thought the name belonged to someone important.”

The manager stepped between them.

“Enough.

Leave now, or I’ll have security remove you.”

“Don’t touch her,” a voice ordered through the businesswoman’s phone.

Everyone froze.

The call was still on speaker.

The caller continued, “AVERY owns every design in tomorrow’s launch.

Without her approval, you cannot display, advertise, or sell a single piece.”

The businesswoman grabbed the phone.

“We have a signed contract!”

“No,” Avery replied.

“You have a copy with a signature I never wrote.”

The manager’s confident smile vanished.

Avery reached into her bag and placed a sealed envelope on the table.

Before she could open it, the businesswoman’s assistant hurried into the restaurant, holding another document.

“Ma’am,” she whispered, trembling, “there’s something else.

The contract wasn’t the only thing filed under Avery’s name.”

The businesswoman read the first line—and slowly looked at the manager.
