Chapter 2: The Name Behind the Company

My attorney lowered his voice.

“Do not confront Daniel yet.

I’ve just found a second document filed three days before the wedding.”

My knees weakened.

“What document?”

“A transfer of ownership.

Your home and the rental properties were moved into a private company.”

“That’s impossible.

Daniel promised nothing would change without my approval.”

“There’s more,” he said.

“Daniel’s signature appears genuine—but the signature beside his is supposed to be yours.”

I opened the file he had emailed.

My name was there in dark ink, but I had never signed it.

Behind me, Daniel snapped, “Who are you talking to?”

I turned slowly.

The smile had vanished from his face.

“My attorney,” I replied.

“He found the property transfer.”

Daniel reached for my phone.

“Hang up.

Now.”

My attorney heard him.

“Put me on speaker.”

The moment I did, he said, “Daniel, perhaps you should explain why her signature was forged—and why your daughter witnessed it.”

Daniel froze.

Then my attorney added, “But that isn’t the worst part.

I found the real owner of the company.”

He paused before saying, “You know this person very well…”
