Chapter 2: Grandma Didn't Just Leave Me Photographs

Part 2 👇

Charlotte didn't rush.

She stood at that microphone like she had rehearsed this moment a hundred times — and maybe she had.

She opened the envelope slowly, pulled out a single photograph, and held it up toward the nearest camera screen so the entire ballroom could see.

It was my mother.

Rose Bennett.

Sitting at her sewing machine, the ivory silk gown spread across her lap, the bluebird half-finished on the sleeve.

Handwritten across the bottom in my mother's careful script:

*"For my Emily.

Every stitch with love.

— Mom."*

The silence was absolute.

Then Charlotte spoke into the microphone, her voice steady and clear.

"This dress was designed and sewn by my grandmother, Rose Bennett.

It was her final gift to my mother before she p\*ssed.

It was never Vanessa Clarke's creation.

And it was never Whitmore Bridal's property."

James stepped forward.

"Charlotte, that is enough—"

"I'm not finished, Dad."

She reached back into the envelope.

There was a second document.

James stopped moving.

Vanessa's hand dropped from the bluebird.

Whatever was in that second document — James recognized it.

I could tell by the color that left his face.

Charlotte looked at her father with calm, quiet eyes.

"Grandma didn't just leave me photographs."
