Chapter 1: The Boy Who Was Never Meant to Be Hungry

At the family celebration, Diane Bennett swiftly snatched away a serving platter piled with roasted chicken thighs just as little Evan stretched out his hand for one.
Without hesitation, she sl@pped the child hard across the face, sending him crashing onto the lawn.
Nearby relatives burst into cruel laughter while Diane looked down at the fallen boy with vicious satisfaction, mockingly asking whether he had started stealing from her table.
Evan lifted his tear-filled eyes toward Claire as Diane continued holding the food out of his reach.
Through broken, embarrassed sobs, he whispered that he was so hungry.
Claire silently stepped forward, took the child gently by the hand, and swept a cold, penetrating gaze across the laughing family members.
Turning toward the estate entrance, she began leading Evan away.
The smile immediately disappeared from Emily Carter's face as an uneasy silence spread through the yard.
Diane refused to let them depart.
Still clutching the platter, she hurried after them and snapped irritably that Claire should not embarrass her over a little family joke.
Claire halted, pivoted sharply, and struck Diane across the face with a powerful sl@p.
Diane fell heavily onto the ground, scattering the roasted chicken thighs across the stones.
Claire leaned over her, retrieved one of the fallen pieces, and pressed it firmly into Diane's mouth while the woman struggled desperately and protested through muffled sounds.
Straightening, Claire firmly grasped Evan's hand and walked toward the gate.
Before leaving, she turned her head and gave Diane, who remained sprawled in the dirt, one last merciless look.
With restrained anger and chilling conviction, she declared that Diane had better enjoy the food because it was the last piece of meat she would ever taste.
How could Diane be heartless enough to strike a hungry child and shame him as a thief over a piece of chicken simply to entertain the relatives laughing around her?
Why had she followed Claire and Evan, determined to preserve her petty control while hiding behind the pathetic excuse of a harmless prank?
And what fatal delusion persuaded the matriarch that she could starve and degrade Claire's son without suffering an immediate reckoning that would take away her privileges forever?
What looked like a domineering relative enforcing rules around a family meal was actually a vicious act of humiliation directed at an innocent boy.
Someone had dared to h*t a starving child and mock his distress, unaware that Claire held the cold, uncompromising power to make them swallow their own cruelty and lose every luxury they had taken for granted.

Diane sl@pped a hungry little boy just to get a laugh from the family — and Claire's response left everyone speechless.
What happens next will change everything for Diane Bennett.
