Chapter 2: What He Made Her Sign

Cole set the evidence case on the table and opened it slowly.

Inside were photographs.

Dozens of them.

Ryan's hands started shaking.

"Those aren't what you think," he said.

"Someone set me up."

Dad didn't look at him.

He looked at me.

"How long?" he asked quietly.

I couldn't answer.

My throat closed.

Linda stepped forward.

"This is a private family matter, Colonel.

"She is my family." Dad's voice didn't rise.

It didn't need to.

Sergeant Cole pulled one photograph from the case and held it up.

Ryan went completely still.

It showed him.

Another woman.

A hotel room.

And a date stamp — three days before our wedding.

Linda made a small sound and looked away.

"That's not all," Cole said.

He reached back into the case and produced a folded document.

Dad took it, opened it, and read it without expression.

Then he looked at Ryan for a long moment.

"You had her sign this two weeks ago."

It wasn't a question.

Ryan said nothing.

I felt something cold move through me.

I had signed something two weeks ago.

Ryan told me it was an insurance form.

"What did I sign?" I whispered.

Dad turned the document toward me.

And the room tilted.

---

What was on that document — and what did Ryan actually make her sign?

The full truth is darker than anyone expected.
