Chapter 2: The Envelope in the Drawer

Part 2 ⬇️

Ethan's eyes moved from Sophia to the camera.

Then back to Sophia.

"Why did you stop crying?" he asked quietly.

Sophia forced a small laugh.

"I'm just…

I'm in shock, Ethan.

Your father—"

"He's standing ten feet away from you."

The room went completely still.

Richard hadn't moved.

He was still holding his cheek where Ethan had sl@pped him.

But his eyes weren't on his son anymore.

They were on Sophia.

Steady.

Patient.

Waiting.

Sophia looked at the family around her — Ethan's sister, two cousins, an aunt.

All of them watching.

"Someone turn that camera off," she said.

No one moved.

"I said turn it off."

Ethan took one slow step toward her.

"Why?"

Her jaw tightened.

"Because I don't want to be filmed right now.

I'm a victim—"

"Then you won't mind if we watch the footage together."

Sophia's breath caught.

Richard spoke for the first time since the sl@p.

His voice was low and very calm.

"Ethan.

Before you do anything else — go check the drawer in my study.

Bottom left.

There's an envelope with your name on it."

Ethan frowned.

"What envelope?"

"I put it there three months ago." Richard looked at his son.

"I was hoping I'd never need you to open it."

Sophia took a sharp step forward.

"Don't listen to him—"

"Sophia." Ethan's voice dropped.

"Stop talking."

---

What's inside that envelope — and how long has Richard known?

The full truth is darker than anyone in that room expected.
