Chapter 2: The Name on the Envelope

Part 2 ⬇️
Nathan crossed the kitchen in three steps and dropped to his knees beside Grace and Lily.
He didn't look at Victoria.
Not yet.
"Are you hurt?" he asked Grace, his voice barely steady.
Grace flinched as she tried to straighten.
"We're fine."
She wasn't fine.
Her shoulder was already swelling beneath her uniform.
Nathan stood slowly and turned to face Victoria.
"Explain this to me." His voice was quiet.
That was worse than shouting.
Victoria lifted her chin.
"She's been lying to you since the day you hired her.
That child is not yours.
She's running a con, Nathan.
I was protecting you."
"With a hockey stick."
"I was scared.
She threatened me first."
Lily pressed her face into Grace's neck, trembling.
Grace wrapped both arms around her and said nothing.
Nathan looked down at his daughter — his daughter — and something behind his eyes went very still.
"Victoria." He said her name like a door closing.
"My father's attorney called me twenty minutes ago.
He told me the envelope in the safe was opened once before.
Six years ago."
Victoria's expression didn't change.
But her hand moved — just slightly — toward her bag.
"He also told me who opened it."
The color left Victoria's face for the second time that morning.
---
What Nathan found inside that envelope didn't just expose Victoria — it unraveled everything his family had built.
