Chapter 2: The Morning the Walls Came Down

None of them slept that night.

Not really.

At 2 a.m., Andrew's phone started ringing.

Then again.

And again.

His CFO.

His bank manager.

His lawyer.

He silenced every call, certain it was nothing he couldn't handle in the morning.

By 4 a.m., the calls stopped.

That was when he should have been afraid.

When he finally walked downstairs at 6 a.m., Margaret was already in the kitchen, her face the color of ash.

She was holding a letter.

Her hand was shaking.

"Andrew." Her voice came out barely above a whisper.

"The house."

"What about the house?"

She looked up at him.

"It's not ours."

He snatched the letter from her hands.

His eyes moved fast across the page — then stopped.

The company.

The property deeds.

The investment accounts.

Every asset he had built his identity around.

Every single one registered under one name.

Mariana Escalante.

Not his name.

Never his name.

"That's impossible," he said.

"I signed everything.

I was there."

Margaret sat down slowly.

"You signed what she put in front of you, Andrew."

Brenda appeared in the doorway, still in last night's dress.

"What's happening?"

Andrew didn't answer.

He was already dialing.

The line connected after one ring.

But it wasn't Mariana's voice on the other end.

It was her father's.

"Good morning, Andrew." The voice was calm.

Almost gentle.

"I've been expecting your call."

What Mariana's father said next left Andrew unable to speak.

The full truth — and everything she had quietly built behind their backs — is in the link below.
