She sat in her car for a long moment.
Then her phone buzzed.
It was Marcus.
"Evelyn.
Where are you?
Something just happened.
Brianna said something to David after you left — I heard it.
You need to know."
"Tell me, Marcus."
A pause.
Then — "She said the money was never yours to begin with.
She said Andrew made sure of that before he d\*ed."
Evelyn went cold.
Andrew.
Her husband.
Gone three years now.
He had left her everything — or so she believed.
"What do you mean he made sure of it?"
"There's a document, Evelyn.
David has it.
Brianna knew about it the whole time."
Evelyn's breath caught.
She thought about all the months she had spent planning this wedding.
Every call.
Every deposit.
Every sacrifice.
And then Brianna's voice came back to her — sharp, certain, almost rehearsed.
*"You were never supposed to find out."*
That sentence hadn't made sense at the time.
Now it did.
She started the car.
