Chapter 2: The Signature She Never Gave

Julian’s face turned red.

“You’re bluffing.

Turn the accounts back on.”

Valerie placed her phone beside the unsigned divorce papers.

“You ordered me out of my own house.

Why should I continue paying for your family’s life?”

Julian’s mother stood abruptly.

“This home belongs to us!”

“No,” Valerie replied.

“Your son let you believe that.”

Julian grabbed the papers.

“Sign these, and I’ll make sure you leave with something.”

Valerie almost smiled.

“You still think you’re negotiating.”

Then her phone lit up with a message from the bank’s legal department.

Valerie read it, and the calmness vanished from her eyes.

“What is it?” Julian demanded.

She slowly turned the screen toward him.

“Someone tried to transfer this mansion into the Sterling family trust three days ago.”

The room fell silent.

“That’s impossible,” Julian said.

“The request carried my signature,” Valerie continued.

“But I never signed it.”

Julian’s mother dropped back into her chair.

His sister looked toward the doorway, refusing to meet Valerie’s eyes.

Then the doorbell rang.

Valerie checked the security camera—and saw the one person Julian had insisted she would never meet.

Julian lunged for her phone.

“Don’t open that door.”
