Chapter 2: The Man Who Knew Too Much

The captain laughed when she said it.
Actually laughed.
"Lady, I don't know who put you up to this, but you need to sit down before I have security remove you."
She didn't flinch.
She didn't raise her voice.
She simply turned her phone around so he could see the screen.
It was a live video call.
A man in a suit sat behind a large desk.
His name was on the wall behind him — the name of the company that owned this jet.
"Captain Merrill," the man said quietly.
"I suggest you listen to her."
The color left the captain's face.
She slid the phone back into her pocket.
"I don't want an apology," she said.
"I want you off this aircraft before we reach the runway."
The other passengers had gone completely silent.
A flight attendant near the back covered her mouth with her hand.
But then — one of the passengers stood up.
A man in a business suit near the front.
He looked directly at her with something cold in his eyes.
"You think this is over?" he said.
"You have no idea who arranged this flight."
She looked at him for a long moment.
And then she smiled.
