Chapter 2: Something Written on the Back

The man stepped forward into the light.

I recognized him immediately.

My brother, Daniel.

"You need to hear the truth, Ryan," he said.

"All of it."

My wife screamed at him.

"You promised you'd never come back.

Daniel didn't flinch.

I turned to my wife.

"You knew."

She just kept shaking her head, tears streaming down her face.

Then Sophie reached out and touched my hand.

"Are you going to send me away?" she whispered.

I couldn't speak.

I couldn't breathe.

Daniel placed the photograph on the floor between us.

"There's something written on the back," he said.

"Read it, Ryan.

Then you'll understand why she's here — and why your wife has been lying to you since before Lily was born."

What's written on that photograph — and how long has Ryan's wife been hiding the truth?
