Chapter 2: What Margot Kept Behind the Counter

Part 2 👇
Nobody moved.
My mother stood in the doorway of the fitting room, my veil folded over both arms like she was carrying something sacred.
She looked at the paper in my hand.
Then at me.
"Juliet." Her voice was careful.
"Let me explain."
"How long?" I said.
She didn't answer.
"How long, Mum?"
Sienna touched Graham's arm.
He stepped slightly in front of her.
That one small movement told me everything I needed to know about how long this had already been decided.
"We were going to tell you," my mother said.
"After the wedding."
I almost laughed.
"After *whose* wedding?"
Sienna's chin lifted.
"Graham loves me, Jules.
He has for a long time.
You just never wanted to see it."
I looked at Graham.
He didn't deny it.
He just stood there, jaw set, eyes somewhere past my shoulder.
Like I was already a problem being managed.
Like I was already the past.
Margot hadn't moved from behind the counter.
But I noticed her hand resting on something beneath it.
A second folder.
Thicker than the first.
"Ms.
Hale," she said quietly.
"There's something else you should know.
About the gown.
About who originally commissioned it."
Sienna's composure cracked — just for a second.
"Margot, don't."
---
What's inside that folder — and what does Margot know about the gown that Sienna doesn't want revealed?
The full truth is darker than anyone in that salon expected.
