Chapter 2: The Second Envelope

Eleanor's face went white.

For a moment, she didn't move.

Then her eyes shifted — not to Julian, not to Leo — but to Maya.

Eleanor: You think you've won something, girl?

Maya didn't flinch.

Maya: I think Leo is safe.

That's enough for me.

Eleanor let out a short, cold laugh.

She straightened her jacket and looked at Julian like he was the one making a mistake.

Eleanor: You are throwing away twenty years over a piece of paper and a servant's word.

Julian: I'm throwing away twenty years because I finally opened my eyes.

Security stepped closer.

Eleanor raised one hand.

Eleanor: Fine.

I'll go.

But Julian — ask your son what else Maya found in that study.

Ask him what was in the second envelope.

The room went still.

Leo's expression changed.

Julian turned slowly toward Maya.

Julian: What second envelope?

Maya looked at Leo.

Leo looked at the floor.

And Eleanor smiled for the first time since Julian walked in.
