Chapter 2: The Folder He Was Never Supposed to See

Part 2 — continued 👇
Grant arrived forty minutes later.
He still had the boutonniere on his lapel.
White rose.
Still perfect.
Like he had just stepped away from a photo shoot instead of abandoning his own wedding.
He stopped in the doorway of my room and stared at the baby in my arms.
I watched his face change.
"Claire." His voice was lower now.
All the celebration was gone.
"Tell me the truth."
"Close the door," I said.
He did.
"Is she mine?"
I didn't answer right away.
I reached for the folder on the bedside table and held it out to him.
He didn't take it.
He just stared at it.
"What is that?"
"Everything your lawyers missed," I said.
"Everything I protected while you were busy telling a judge I was unstable."
His jaw tightened.
"Why didn't you tell me you were pregnant?"
"You had already decided what I was," I said.
"You didn't want the truth.
You wanted to win."
He finally took the folder.
I watched him open it.
I watched his eyes move across the first page.
Then stop.
His hand went still.
"This can't be right," he said quietly.
"It's been verified twice," I said.
"By two separate labs."
He looked up at me.
For the first time in two years, Grant Kingsley looked afraid.
"Grant," I said.
"That's not the only thing in the folder."

What Grant read on that second page changed everything — and Sienna's name was on it.
