The bride didn't move.

She just stood there, staring at Julian like she'd seen a ghost.

Then Mason crossed the room in six fast steps and grabbed Julian's arm.

"You need to leave," he said through his teeth.

"Right now."

Julian didn't flinch.

"Hello, Mason," he said calmly.

"Congratulations on the wedding."

Mason's grip tightened.

"I'm not joking.

Get out."

I stepped between them.

"He's my guest," I said.

"You invited me, remember?

You even told me to come alone."

Something flickered across Mason's face.

Not anger.

Fear.

The bride finally moved.

She walked toward us slowly, her eyes locked on Julian the entire time.

Her hands were shaking.

"Where did you find him?" she asked me.

Her voice was barely above a whisper.

"An agency," I said.

"Why?"

She let out a short, strange laugh.

Then she looked at Julian and said something I didn't expect.

"Does she know who you really are?"

Julian said nothing.

Mason grabbed her arm.

"Sophia.

Don't."

She pulled free.

"No." Her voice cracked.

"She deserves to know.

Because I didn't — not until it was too late."

The room had gone completely still.

And then Sophia reached into her bouquet and pulled out a folded piece of paper.

Her hand was trembling as she held it out to me.

"Read this," she whispered.

"And then decide if you still want to be on his arm."
