Chapter 1: The Day I Stopped Being Invisible

My Husband Wh!pped Me 20 Times Because I Stood Up to His P0ison-Tongued Mistress.

With Bl00d Running Down My Back, I Called My Billionaire Father: "Dad, Stop Sparing Him…

Destroy His Life." Five Minutes Later, My Husband Fell Apart When He Found Out Who I Really Was...

"If you don't kneel and beg my mistress for forgiveness, I'll teach you exactly what your place is in this house."

Those were the last words my husband, Nathan Brooks, said before lifting the riding crop that hung as a decorative piece in the main living room of our Beverly Hills mansion.

The first str!ke sl!ced across my back before I could even process that Nathan—the man I had married before God and in front of half of New York's business world—was truly capable of h\*rting me.

The second kn0cked the breath from my chest.

By the tenth, I was already on my knees against the cold marble.

By the twentieth, bl00d had stained the floor I had chosen myself when I still believed this place would become our home.

A few steps away, Madison was smiling.

Madison Blake, the woman Nathan proudly introduced as his "image consultant" at corporate events, stood beside him in a champagne dress I recognized instantly.

I had purchased it with one of my own cards, never knowing it was meant for her.

"Poor Sophia," she said in a voice sweet enough to hide poison.

"She still insists on acting like the victim."

I forced my head up.

My back felt like fire, my lips trembled, but the pain that hurt most was not in my body.

It was seeing my husband look at me like I was nothing.

"She hum!liated me at dinner," Nathan said, gripping the crop tighter.

"In front of my partners."

"Madison told everyone I was useless because I hadn't given you children," I said, my voice breaking.

Madison laughed softly.

"I only said what everyone was already wondering.

After three years of marriage, people are naturally going to ask."

"You also said I married Nathan for money."

Nathan tilted his head and smiled with pure contempt.

"Didn't you?"

That blow left no bl00d, but it broke something far deeper.

For three years, I had played the perfect wife.

Quiet.

Elegant.

Always standing just behind him at executive dinners in Manhattan, luxury openings in Miami, and charity events in Newport.

I smiled when he spoke.

I clapped when he received awards.

I never demanded my name on documents, never asked for company shares, never used my family name to impress anyone.

Nathan loved telling people he had met me "with nothing," that I was a simple girl from Savannah whom he had elevated into a society wife.

That version benefited him.

It made him look powerful.

He never asked why my mother's last name was impossible to trace online.

He never questioned why banks started approving impossible credit after he married me.

He never wondered why men who had ignored him before suddenly wanted dinner meetings the moment I stepped into the room.

Madison came closer, crouched in front of me, and held my chin between two fingers.

"Say you're sorry," she whispered.

"Maybe then I can convince Nathan to let you live in the Palm Springs house after the divorce."

The word cut through me.

"Divorce?"

Nathan tossed a folder onto the floor beside my bl00d-stained hand.

"It's finished, Sophia.

I'm tired of dragging around a wife who is good for nothing.

Madison is pregnant."

The room went completely silent.

Madison placed one hand over her flat stomach and smiled like a queen receiving her crown.

For a single second, I felt no pain.

Only certainty.

Everything I had swallowed for love, loyalty, and hope turned to ash.

I looked at the folder.

Then at the crop.

Then at my husband.

And I understood that my father had been right all along.

With shaking fingers, I reached for my phone where it had fallen near the sofa.

Nathan laughed.

"What now?

Calling the police?

Go ahead.

Tell them your millionaire husband had to discipline his hysterical wife."

My lip was split, but I still smiled.

"No," I said.

"I'm calling my father."

Nathan's laughter died.

My father picked up on the second ring.

I swallowed bl00d, pulled in a painful breath, and said:

"Dad, do what you promised.

Ruin his life."

On the other end of the line, my father replied calmly:

"Stay exactly where you are, sweetheart.

It's already started."

And then Nathan's phone began ringing without stopping.
