Chapter 1: The Smartwatch That Saved Her Life

My mother-in-law threatened my eight-year-old daughter in the ER.
She didn't know a detective was listening behind the curtain.
Hours earlier, Lily had suffered a severe allergic reaction after Evelyn switched her safe dessert for one covered in peanuts.
Then Lily's emergency injector mysteriously vanished.
At the hospital, Evelyn leaned toward her bed.
"If anyone asks, tell them your father forgot your medicine."
But Lily whispered, "I saw you."
Her smartwatch had recorded Evelyn switching the desserts, stealing the injector, and discussing a plan to seize Lily's $3 million inheritance.
Then Detective Collins stepped from behind the curtain.
Police had found the missing injector inside Evelyn's car.
But her arrest exposed an even deeper betrayal.
The custody petition had also been signed by Daniel's younger brother, Michael, who wanted to become Lily's permanent guardian.
Then Michael called and asked one question he should not have known to ask:
"Did the doctors find the second injector?"
What did Michael know — and who told him?
