Chapter 2: The Letter I Never Saw

“…saved my life.”

My breath caught.

Silas took my shaking hand.

“Three years ago, after the bridge pileup,” he said.

“You stayed beside me when everyone thought I wouldn’t make it.

You refused to give up.”

Felicity stepped between us.

“She’s only doing her job.

Please don’t turn this into some dramatic scene.”

Silas’s expression hardened.

“Only her job?

That nurse protected me for six hours.

She called my son herself.”

The groom stared at me.

“That was you?”

Before I could answer, my dad snapped, “There must be some mistake.”

“There is,” Silas replied.

“I sent her a letter afterward.

I offered to fund any medical training she wanted.

Your family answered that she wanted no contact.”

“I never received a letter,” I whispered.

Felicity’s face drained of color.

Silas slowly pulled out his phone.

“Then perhaps you can explain why the reply came from Felicity’s email address.”

Every head turned toward my sister.

“That proves nothing,” she said, reaching for the phone.

But the groom caught her wrist.

His voice shook as he looked at the message on the screen.

“Felicity…

why did you tell my father she was using a false name?”
