Chapter 1: The Dress She Thought She Could Burn

"My sister poured instant glue on my $18,000 wedding dress minutes before the ceremony.

She had no idea the gown was actually a $60,000 loan, or that the camera above us had recorded everything.

The clear liquid hit my wedding gown before I could even react.

One second I was standing under the crystal lights in my dream dress.

The next second, instant glue was burning through the delicate silk bodice.

My sister Vanessa stood over me, holding the empty tube.

She smiled like she had finally won.

"Oops," she said softly.

The room went utterly silent.

My mother gasped and covered her mouth in sheer horror.

My maid of honor stared at the ruined lace, completely frozen.

Then Vanessa actually laughed.

"Consider this character building, Claire," she smirked.

My hands started to shake uncontrollably.

She had spent thirty years ruining my life and calling it an accident.

She cut my prom dress, ruined my previous relationships, and leaked my engagement photos.

She thought she had gotten away with it again.

"What?

No comeback?" Vanessa taunted.

"Oh relax, she can just buy another dress," she told our mother.

That one sentence proved how clueless she really was.

Vanessa thought I owned the dress.

She did not know it was a custom designer sample on loan, insured for $60,000.

Destroying it was not just family drama.

It was a serious crjme.

And she had done it right in front of the security camera I had installed three weeks ago.

I turned to my maid of honor with perfect calm.

"Tell the groom the ceremony is delayed one hour," I said.

Vanessa snorted.

"You're still getting married?

In what?"

I glanced at the empty glue tube, then up at the tiny black lens above the door.

"Something better."

She rolled her eyes and walked out of the room.

The moment the door closed, I pulled out my phone and opened a hidden folder.

Eight months of bank transfers, forged signatures, fake invoices, and recorded calls.

I dialed my lawyer at once.

"Mr.

Hale," I whispered.

"She did it."
