The officer took Brooke's phone and scrolled slowly.
His expression didn't change.
But he stopped at one recording and looked up at Grant.
"Sir, is this your voice?"
Grant said nothing.
The recording played for less than thirty seconds.
But what came out of that speaker made the two other officers exchange a look I will never forget.
It wasn't just Grant's voice.
There was a second voice on that recording.
A woman's voice.
And it wasn't his mother.
Brooke looked at me and said quietly, "I found out eight months ago.
I didn't say anything because I was scared of what he'd do."
Grant's jaw tightened.
"That recording is out of context—"
"You told her the house was already in your name," the officer said flatly.
"Is that true?"
The room went cold.

Not from her phone.
From a folded envelope she had kept tucked inside her purse all evening.
She placed it on the table in front of the officer without a word.
Grant saw what was written on the front.
And for the first time that night, he looked genuinely afraid.
