Chapter 2: Whose Name Is on the Account

Michael's voice had changed.

The confidence was gone.

"Mom.

What does he mean, your authorization?"

I opened my handbag and took out my phone.

I didn't rush.

Captain Hayes stood quietly to the side.

He had worked with the Harrison Family Office for eleven years.

He knew exactly who signed the approvals.

"The aircraft is registered under the Harrison Family Office," I said.

"Every flight requires sign-off from the account holder." I looked at Michael.

"That's me."

Lauren came down two steps.

"That's absurd.

My assistant confirmed this booking directly."

"With whom?" I asked.

She didn't answer.

Michael turned to her.

"Who did Sarah call?"

Lauren's jaw tightened.

"She called the number you gave me.

The one you said was your mother's office manager."

Something shifted in Michael's face.

A small crack.

I hadn't given anyone that number.

Captain Hayes cleared his throat.

"Mrs.

Harrison, there's one more thing." He turned the tablet toward me.

"The billing account on this booking was changed three days ago.

It was redirected to a personal card.

Not the Family Office account."

Michael went still.

"Someone tried to run this flight without going through me at all," I said quietly.

"They just didn't realize the authorization protocol can't be bypassed."

Lauren took one step back up the stairs.

Emma appeared in the doorway above us, watching.

And Michael finally asked the question he should have asked three days ago.

May you like

"Lauren…

what did you do?"
