Chapter 1: The House That Was Never Mine
"My stepmother said I wasn't family and demanded $2,000 to stay in my father's house.
When I refused, she sl@pped me.
"This is my house, not yours!" Vanessa shouted.
I stood there crying.
Then my father David unexpectedly came home.
Within seconds, Vanessa transformed into a completely different person.
"She wants to leave," she told him sweetly.
"That's a lie!" I shouted.
But Dad didn't know who to believe.
When I sl@pped Vanessa back, he became furious.
I desperately tried to explain what she'd done.
Vanessa just shook her head.
"None of that happened."
Then I glanced toward the shelf.
My old teddy bear was sitting there.
"Dad, that bear has a camera inside."
Vanessa froze.
Dad slowly turned toward her.
"Then I think we should watch it."
She stepped back in terror.
