Chapter 2: The Signature He Never Meant to Give

“Do not begin the vote,” I said.
“Send Lauren’s documents to Daniel now.”
The moment I entered the car, Daniel opened his laptop.
His face changed as he read the first page.
“Mrs.
Harrison, these papers claim Michael approved the sale of his shares.”
“He would never sell his father’s company.”
“There’s more.
Lauren says you’re no longer capable of serving as chairwoman.”
My hands went cold.
“What evidence did she submit?”
“Michael’s signature.”
Before I could answer, my phone rang.
It was Michael—but when I picked up, Emma whispered, “Grandma, don’t hang up.”
“Emma?
Where is your father?”
“Mom took his phone.
She told Dad the papers he signed were permission forms for our trip.”
“Where are those papers now?”
“In Mom’s bag.
I saw your name on them.”
A door slammed behind her.
“Emma?” I said.
Her breathing quickened.
“Grandma, Mom’s coming.”
Lauren’s voice cut through the line.
“Who are you talking to?”
The call ended.
Daniel stared at me.
“Lauren has Michael’s phone, his signature, and hours before the yacht returns.”
Then an email appeared on his screen.
Attached was a final document neither of us had seen before.
Daniel read the title and went pale.
“She isn’t only trying to remove you,” he said.
“She’s trying to take control of everything—today.”
What did Lauren make Michael sign, and can Mrs.
May you like
