Chapter 2: The Person He Found Out About Was You

Two officers arrived within minutes.

Logan didn't resist.

He stood in the middle of the room, glass still crunching under his shoes, and let them cuff him without a word.

She watched from across the room, a towel pressed to her arm, her eyes never leaving his face.

"I want him charged," she said quietly.

"All of it."

One of the guests stepped forward — an older woman Logan vaguely recognized.

A friend of his father's.

"There's something you should know," she said to the officers.

"Before any of this happened tonight…

his father was already leaving."

Logan's head snapped toward her.

"What do you mean already leaving?"

The woman hesitated.

"He came to me two weeks ago.

Said he'd found something.

Something about the business." She paused.

"About where the money was going."

The room shifted.

Logan felt the cuffs tighten on his wrists.

"What money?"

She looked at him with something close to pity.

"Your father didn't have a suitcase packed because she threw him out, Logan."

A long silence.

"He was leaving before the party even started."

Logan stared at her.

"Then why didn't he say anything to me?"

She looked down at her hands.

"Because the person he found out about…

was you."
