Chapter 2: The Promise That Left the Room Cold

Vincent's voice was quiet.
That made it worse.
"You raised your hand at my mother, Victoria."
Victoria's smile collapsed.
She looked around the room — searching for an ally, a sympathetic face, anyone — but the guests had all taken a small step back.
"Vincent, I can explain—"
"Don't."

Victoria's face crumbled.

Then Isabella Moretti reached up slowly from her wheelchair and placed one frail hand over Emma's.
The old woman said nothing.
She simply held on.
Vincent watched his mother's hand cover Emma's.
Something shifted behind his eyes — something no one in that room could quite read.
He looked at Emma one more time before following his security team out.
What he did next morning would change Emma Carter's life forever — but not in the way anyone expected.
---
What Victoria had planned for Emma was already in motion before she even left the building.
