Chapter 1: The Glass Between Them

She's lying about the hospital, but he's already standing right outside…
"Hi baby!" Maya cooed into her phone, her voice dripping with artificial sweetness as she leaned back in the plush leather dining chair.
Across the candlelit table, Marcus, her handsome date, poured another glass of vintage red wine, completely oblivious to her deception.
Outside the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, a bitter cold wind swept through the courtyard.
Standing in the shadows was James, her husband, holding his phone tightly against his ear.
His gaze was fixed directly on her through the glass.
"You left so fast," James said into the receiver, his voice calm, steady, and terrifyingly cold.
Maya took a quick sip of her wine, flashing a warm, innocent smile at Marcus before answering.
"She's already better, honey.
It was nothing serious, I promise." 💔
James didn't flinch.
He adjusted his dark jacket, his dark eyes burning right through the tinted glass as he watched her laugh with another man.
"You said you were going to see your sick mother at the hospital," he said slowly, pronouncing every single word with icy precision.
"How is she?"
"I'm with her right now," Maya replied without missing a beat, casually tracing the rim of her crystal wine glass.
"She's resting, but she really appreciates you asking."
A long, suffocating silence stretched across the phone line.
James took a slow step closer to the window, his shadow falling across the glass wall.
"Okay," James whispered softly, his expression turning entirely stone-cold.
"When you finish eating at the restaurant...
tell your mother I wish her a speedy recovery." 😨
Maya froze.
The warm color drained from her face instantly, her smile shattering into pure horror.
Her head snapped toward the large glass window.
Standing right there in the bright light of the courtyard, staring straight into her soul, was her husband.
