Chapter 2: The Envelope and the Name She Recognized

Part 2 ⬇️
Mrs.
Johnson reached into her handbag and pulled out a small white envelope.
She didn't rush.
She didn't raise her voice.
She simply held it out toward the young woman in magenta.
"I was going to give you this at the end of the evening," she said quietly.
"But I think now is the right time."
The young woman's hands trembled as she took it.
Inside was a single folded letter — and a photo.
Her face went white.
"Where did you get this?" she whispered.
"I've known who you are since the moment you walked through my gate," Mrs.
Johnson said.
"I invited you here for a reason."
The second young woman grabbed her friend's arm.
"What is it?
What does it say?"
But the girl in magenta couldn't speak.
She just stared at the photo, her champagne glass slipping from her fingers and shattering on the stone path.
Every guest in the garden turned to look.
Mrs.
Johnson leaned in close, her voice dropping so only the two of them could hear.
"Your mother and I have a long history.
And tonight, you're going to answer for what your family did to mine."
😨 The room held its breath.
Nobody moved.
Then a door at the far end of the garden swung open — and the woman who stepped through it made Mrs.
Johnson's face go completely still.
