Chapter 1: When Family Tradition Becomes a Deadly Trap

The chandelier in the grand ballroom cast a brilliant, merciless light over the immaculate white-clothed tables, illuminating the absolute cruelty unfolding in real-time.

Without a single word of warning, Diane, the family matriarch with her silver hair coiled into a pristine chignon and her expression hardened by absolute arrogance, slammed a towering, multi-layered white frosted birthday cake directly into the face of Claire.

A collective gasp sucked the air right out of the room, followed immediately by Diane's shrill, booming laughter echoing off the crystal walls.

She threw her head back, highly amused by her own malice, while Claire sat frozen, her royal blue dress soaked in heavy cream and sticky sugar.

"It's our family tradition!

Lighten up!" Diane cackled, wiping a smudge of icing from her thumb as if she had just performed a public service rather than an act of sheer humiliation.

😤

Claire did not flinch, nor did she cower.

Slowly, deliberately, the younger woman rose from her chair, her body trembling with a cold, terrifying fury.

She reached for a pristine cloth napkin, her eyes locked onto Diane with a gaze so venomous it could freeze fire, and began to wipe the thick white cream from her cheek and eyes.

"You think humiliating me in front of everyone is funny?" Claire's voice cut through the ambient chatter like a razor, low, steady, and dripping with a lethal promise.

Diane only sneered, leaning back in her seat with total impunity, dismissing Claire's threat with a flick of her hand.

But the game was far from over.

With a flick of her wrist, Diane picked up a thick, heavy yellow envelope resting beside her plate and shoved it aggressively across the spotless silver platter toward Richard, the patriarch of the family sitting rigidly at the head of the table.

"Richard, here's your anniversary present early," Diane purred, her voice dripping with false sweetness.

Richard, a distinguished man in a sharp charcoal suit, frowned deeply, his brow furrowing as he reached out with heavy, calloused hands to slide the flap open.

He pulled out the contents, and a cascade of glossy photographs spilled across the silver tray.

The breath caught in Richard's throat.

The photos displayed unmistakable, highly intimate moments between Diane and another man, lounging together under a tropical sun, their bodies entwined in blatant betrayal.

Richard's face flushed a furious, dark crimson.

The veins in his temples bulged violently.

He surged to his feet, knocking his chair back with a sharp clatter, and pointed a trembling, accusing finger straight at a stunned young man standing near the perimeter.

"Diane!

Who is this man you've been seeing?!" Richard roared, his voice shaking the crystal glasses on the table.

😱

Panic flashed across Diane's face for the very first time.

Dropping all pretense of composure, she scrambled forward, lunging wildly across the table to snatch the photos back before anyone else could inspect the evidence.

"Give me those photos!

They mean nothing!" Diane shrieked, her hands clawing desperately at the silver tray as her voice cracked with panic.

Standing just inches away, Claire watched the utter chaos unfold with a slow, devastating smirk spreading across her cream-splattered face.

She tilted her head, her eyes gleaming with dark triumph as she delivered the final blow.

"Oops," Claire whispered softly, the silence of the horrified room amplifying every single syllable, "is this another family tradition?"

Across the table, Diane froze mid-motion, her hands gripping the edges of the silver tray while Richard towered over her, his eyes blazing with r@ging fury as the entire family watched in stunned, paralyzed silence.
