Chapter 2: Six Screens in the Dark

Part 2 👇
The tapping took four seconds.
By the fifth second, six phones lit up across the ballroom.
I watched the screens glow from my corner — one near the bar, two at the head table, three more scattered among the guests.
Men in suits who had been laughing a moment ago now sat very still, reading something that made the color drain from their faces.
Victoria hadn't noticed yet.
She was still smiling at me, smoothing her silver dress, satisfied the way only cruel people can be satisfied.
"Someone get this woman a towel," she said to no one.
"And then get her out."
Graham finally moved.

"Eleanor." His voice was low.
"You should go.
You've made your point."
"I haven't made anything yet," I said.

His eyes dropped to my armrest.
To my finger.
Something shifted in his face — not guilt.
Worse than guilt.
Recognition.
"What did you do?" he whispered.
Before I could answer, a door at the far end of the ballroom opened.
Three men in dark suits walked in.
They weren't waitstaff.
They weren't guests.
And they were walking directly toward Victoria Ardell.

What Eleanor set in motion that night exposed secrets the Ardell family had buried for years.
