Chapter 2: Every Tuesday, Always When You Were Gone

Part 2 ⬇️
Declan didn't move.
Couldn't.
He watched through the gap as Camille reached into the safe with steady, practiced hands.
No hesitation.
No trembling.
She knew exactly what she was looking for.
She pulled out a thick envelope and a black USB drive.
Then she spoke — and her voice nearly dropped him to his knees.
"It's done, Aris.
I have everything.
Be at the dock by six."
She was on a phone.
Dr.
Aris.
His doctor.
The man Declan had trusted with her life for two years.
Camille tucked the envelope inside her jacket and turned toward the door.
Declan pressed back against the wall.
His pulse was a hammer.
His hands were ice.
Tessa grabbed his sleeve and pulled him two steps back, shaking her head.
"She's been doing this for weeks," Tessa whispered, her voice barely sound.
"Every Tuesday.
Always when you're supposed to be gone."
Declan stared at her.
"How long have you known?"
Tessa's eyes filled.
"I was scared.
I didn't know what she'd do to me if—"
A door clicked open down the hall.
Footsteps.
Calm.
Unhurried.
Getting closer.
