Chapter 1: The Wrong Woman to Cross

The metallic screech of wheels grinding against the subway tracks echoed through the crowded train car.

Packed among commuters, a young woman held tight to her worn leather bag, her eyes scanning the shifting crowd with quiet vigilance.

Opposite her, a man in a black hoodie and pulled-down baseball cap edged closer, casting quick glances around the compartment.

Slipping through the press of bodies, he made a sudden, forceful grab for her shoulder bag, attempting to wrench it from her grip in one swift movement.

Her reaction was instant.

Dropping her center of gravity, she planted her feet on the moving floor, pulled the strap back toward her chest, and shoved him back with a firm elbow.

Caught off guard by the resistance, the man stumbled against the handrails, his dark eyes flaring with anger as the surrounding passengers recoiled.

He leaned in close, his voice low and dripping with menace.

"Give me the bag," he sneered, invading her space to assert dominance.

Without flinching, she locked eyes with him, her voice steady and razor-sharp.

"Try it."

Before the man could react, she shifted into a defensive posture.

As he lunged forward a second time, she swept his arms aside, knocked his footing out from under him, and drove him hard into the subway floor.

In a single fluid motion, she dropped down, pinning his arms behind his back and pressing a knee into his torso, completely neutralizing any threat.

Breathing heavily, the man lay immobilized on the cold metal floor, staring up at her in utter shock.

She leaned down, her gaze icy as she delivered her final words.
