Chapter 1: The Woman Behind the Fence

# The Shocking Truth at Graduation
---
My high school graduation day was supposed to be the proudest moment of my life, but it shattered in a split second.
Amidst the joyous music and bright bouquets, a grief-stricken, haggard middle-aged Black woman in tattered clothes appeared behind the metal fence.
With trembling hands, she raised an old, weathered photograph of a newborn baby wrapped in a yellow blanket, bearing a distinct birthmark on its forehead.
My adoptive father, standing beside me in a sharp navy blue suit, instantly changed expression.
He glared at the strange woman and ordered me in a chillingly cold voice:
"Don't look at her."
Yet my heart was instantly hooked by that photograph.
The red birthmark on the baby's forehead...
how could it look identical to the birthmark on my own forehead?
A wave of curiosity and unease churned in my chest.
As I walked past the woman to head toward the car with my family, I couldn't hold back any longer.
I stopped, turned around, and widened my eyes in shock as I looked at her tear-stained face.
"Where did you get this?" I stammered, my hand instinctively touching the mark on my forehead.
The impoverished woman's chest heaved, her lips trembled soundlessly, and then she choked out from the depths of her soul:
"Son...
I'm your mother!" 😢
My entire world collapsed around me.
My eyes stared at her in utter disbelief.
Before I could gather my senses, my adoptive father rushed over, gripped my shoulder tightly, and pulled me away roughly:
"That's enough.
We're leaving."
I violently shook off his hand, stepped back, and glared at the man who had raised me for years.
A surge of fury reached its boiling point in my chest, causing me to shout:
"You said she d\*ed when I was two!
Why did you lie?!" 😤
My adoptive mother immediately stepped in, her expression fierce and arrogant as she blocked our path and yelled at the woman:
"She needs to leave right now!"
My dad grabbed my arm tightly, dragging me away despite my fierce resistance.
But before I was pulled completely out of sight, I turned my head back and looked straight into his cold and guilt-ridden eyes.
My father gritted his teeth and dropped a truth so cruel it made my bl\*\*d run cold:
"Because we told her you were d\*ad too." 💔

Behind the fence, the pitiful mother stood frozen in place, hugging the old photograph tightly to her chest, her despairing eyes watching as her son slowly faded into the distance.
