Chapter 2: Eleven Missing Minutes

Arthur sat back down at the conference table like nothing had happened.
That was the part that frightened Clare most.
Not anger.
Not denial.
Just that slow, easy return to his chair, one hand smoothing his jacket, eyes already moving to the other council members as if a four-year-old girl had pointed at him through glass and it meant absolutely nothing.
Dominic watched him for a long moment.
Then he turned to Vincent.
"Pull the feed from yesterday.
Rehabilitation wing.
Between two and four."
Vincent was already moving.
Mercer cleared his throat.
"Dominic, I want to be clear — I had no knowledge of any—"
"I know."
"If someone on my staff—"
"Samuel." Dominic's voice was quiet.
"Stop talking."
Mercer stopped.
Clare kept her hand on Ellie's shoulder.
The little girl had gone very still, the latch toy pressed against her chest, eyes fixed on the floor.
Then Vincent came back.
His face said everything before his mouth did.
"There's a gap."
"How long?"
"Eleven minutes.
Yesterday.
3:18 to 3:29."
Dominic didn't react.
"Someone cut it?"
"Overwritten.
Looks like a system error." Vincent's jaw tightened.
"It wasn't."
From inside the conference room, Arthur's voice carried through the glass.
"Gentlemen.
While we wait — there's one matter we can review without him."
Dominic heard it.
He turned slowly.
Arthur was already opening a folder.
---
What's inside that folder — and who else in that room knew what Arthur was planning?
