Chapter 2: The Name on the Phone

The room went dead silent.
Victoria's face had gone white.
Her husband stood with his back to her, and he didn't turn around.
Elena pressed her hand to her chest, still shaking.
Julian stepped closer to the monitor and pointed at the screen.
Julian: Look at the timestamp.
She did it while Elena was serving the drinks.

Victoria: That footage could be edited.

Julian: Edited?

Elena: Because I work here.

Victoria's jaw tightened.
She glanced toward the door, then back at the monitor.
Julian: Don't.
Security already has the exits covered.
Then a phone on the side table lit up.
Victoria lunged for it — but Julian got there first.
He looked at the screen.
His expression changed.
Julian: Who is Robert Haines…
and why has he been calling you every day this week?
Victoria said nothing.
But her hands had started to tremble.
