Chapter 1: The Fountain

Robert shoved both hands into my shoulders before I could turn away.
"You ruin everything!"
I tightened my arms around Lily as he pushed me.
My heel slipped from the fountain rim.
"Mommy!"
I twisted in midair so my three-year-old daughter would not strike the stone.
Cold water swallowed us both.
I surfaced gasping, keeping Lily above the water while wedding guests recoiled — and several actually laughed.
Chloe stormed toward the fountain, her eyes fixed only on the red wine stain across her lace gown.
"Look what your child did to my dress!"
Ethan raised his champagne glass.
"Never invite cheap trash to a high-class affair."
I climbed from the fountain with Lily trembling against my chest.
Water streamed from my torn dress.
"What did I ever do to deserve this from you?!"
Then the entrance doors swung open.
Alexander stepped inside.
My husband stopped when he saw us.
His soaked wife.
His terrified daughter.
The laughter died instantly.
He looked toward the venue manager.
"Who did this?"
Nobody answered.
Then Lily lifted one shaking hand and pointed directly at Alexander's father.
---
What will Alexander do when he realizes his own father pushed his wife and child into that fountain?
