Alexander didn't move for a long moment.
He looked at Lily's shaking finger.
Then at his father.
Robert's face had gone completely still.
"She's a child," Alexander said quietly.
"She doesn't know what she's saying."
"She knows exactly what she's saying." My voice came out steadier than I felt.
"He pushed me, Alexander.
In front of everyone."
Robert straightened his jacket.
"Your wife stumbled.
I tried to catch her."
A few guests nodded.
Someone murmured agreement.
I felt the room shifting against me.
Then Chloe stepped forward, her ruined dress held out like evidence.
"She caused a scene at my wedding.
That's all anyone needs to know."
Alexander looked at me.
Then at his daughter still shaking against my chest.
Something moved across his face — but he said nothing.
That silence hit harder than anything Robert had done.
I wrapped both arms tighter around Lily and turned toward the exit.
Then I heard it.
A voice from the back of the room.
Calm.
Certain.
"I recorded everything."
The room went completely still.
I turned around slowly.
A woman I didn't recognize was holding up her phone — and looking directly at Alexander's father.
