Chapter 2: The Second Video

Vittorio didn't move.
His eyes stayed fixed on Emma's phone screen.
"How long?" he asked quietly.
Emma's voice barely came out.
"Three weeks, sir."
The room went still.
Three weeks.
Lucy had been living in that house for three weeks.
Vittorio turned slowly toward Bianca.
She had straightened herself on the ottoman and was already smoothing her dress, composing her expression — the way she always did when she needed to look innocent.
"It was just a game," she said.
"Lucy thought it was funny."
Lucy pressed her face into Emma's side and said nothing.
"She cried every morning," Emma said.
"She stopped eating at the table after the second day."
Bianca's eyes cut toward Emma like a blade.
"You were hired to clean this house.
Not to spy on me."
"I was hired to care for this family," Emma said.
Her voice had stopped shaking.
Vittorio looked at his daughter.
Lucy still hadn't raised her head.
Then Marcus spoke from the corner.
His voice was calm.
Almost amused.
"You can't prove any pattern.
One video means nothing.
Any lawyer will tell you that."
Vittorio looked at him for a long moment.
Then Emma's phone lit up.
A second video.
Timestamped fourteen days earlier.
A different room.
The same dog bowl.
Marcus stopped smiling.
