The recording lasted four minutes and thirty-one seconds.
No one spoke while it played.
The television showed everything.
Vanessa grabbing Lily's wrist.
Vanessa lifting Noah without care.
The doghouse door slamming shut.
The latch clicking into place.
When it ended, the room was completely silent.
Vanessa moved first.
"Adrian, listen to me.
I was stressed.
I made a mistake.
It will never—"
"Sit down."
His voice was so quiet it stopped her mid-sentence.
Lily pressed closer to his side.
Noah had fallen asleep against his shoulder, exhausted from crying.
Adrian looked at his daughter.
"How many times, Lily?"
She didn't answer right away.
Her eyes dropped to the floor.
"Lily." His voice was gentle now.
"How many times has she done something like this?"
Lily's chin trembled.
"She said you'd never believe us."
Adrian closed his eyes for one second.
When he opened them, he reached into his leather folder and placed a single document on the marble table.
Vanessa's face changed the moment she saw it.
"Where did you get that?" she whispered.
Adrian didn't answer.
But the housekeeper, standing frozen in the doorway, recognized the document immediately.
She had signed it six months ago.
And she had never told anyone.
