Chapter 2: The Message on Mia’s Phone

Aaliyah’s throat tightened.

“Tell me you didn’t sign that.”

David stared at the paperwork.

“I didn’t.

That isn’t my signature.”

Vanessa’s face hardened.

“Then Evelyn brought fake documents to turn you against us.”

“I called the bank myself,” Evelyn replied.

“The request came from David’s private email.”

David looked at Vanessa.

“You’re the only person who knows that password.”

“That proves nothing,” Vanessa snapped.

“Maybe Aaliyah did this to embarrass Mia.”

Aaliyah stepped back.

“You think I destroyed my own dress and tried to give away my own money?”

Mia suddenly cried, “Mom said Aaliyah wouldn’t find out until after graduation!”

The room went silent.

Vanessa grabbed Mia’s arm.

“You’re confused.

Stop talking.”

“What wasn’t I supposed to find out?” Aaliyah asked.

Before Vanessa could answer, Mia’s phone lit up on the bed.

Evelyn picked it up and read the message on the screen.

THE FIRST TRANSFER FAILED.

BRING AALIYAH’S SIGNATURE TOMORROW.

David’s face went pale.

Then he saw the name saved above the message—and slowly turned toward Vanessa.

The message on Mia’s phone exposed only the beginning.
