Lorna didn't stay down long.
She stood slowly, touched her cheek, and smiled.
That cold, empty smile that had fooled me for two years.
"You'll regret this," she said.
"I know things about you.
Things that could take Estelle away from you permanently."
My blood went c0ld.
"What are you talking about?"
She picked up her bag like nothing had happened.
"Ask your lawyer.
Ask him what he helped you hide three years ago." She glanced at Estelle still trembling in my arms.
"Courts don't give children to men with your kind of past."
Lenette stepped forward.
"Miss Lorna, you should leave."
Lorna ignored her and walked to the door.
Then she stopped.
"I'll be at the courthouse Monday morning.
Come or don't.
Either way, I win."
The door closed behind her.
Estelle looked up at me with wet eyes.
