Chapter 1: The Morning I Came Home Early

"I returned home three days early with roses for my fiancée, only to hear her call my twin babies 'brats' and detail her plan to ship them to boarding school once we married.

I stood frozen in the hallway of my estate.

In my hands, twenty-four red roses were crushed.

From the kitchen came a baby's terrified scream.

My fiancée's voice followed, cold and sharp.

'I told you I don't want those brats down here while I'm having breakfast.'

I crept closer, peering through the cracked door.

Our caregiver stood holding my eleven-month-old twins against her chest.

My fiancée Genevieve casually sipped coffee in her silk robe.

Then, Genevieve swept her cup off the counter.

It shattered on the tile inches from the babies' feet.

Everett screamed again.

Before anyone could speak, Genevieve poured a pitcher of cold milk directly over the caregiver's head.

'Now clean up your mess,' Genevieve sneered.

'Get on your knees.'

The caregiver shielded my sons, refusing to set them down near broken glass.

Genevieve grabbed her wrist and raised her phone with a cruel grin.

'I'll tell the police you attacked me.'

Then Genevieve said the words that destroyed me.

'Once Dorian and I marry, you're gone and those boys are being sent to boarding school in Switzerland.'

'I'm not spending my thirties raising another woman's children.'

She laughed when the caregiver protested.

'Dorian agrees to whatever I put in front of him,' Genevieve boasted.

'Men like him are easy.'

My bl00d ran cold as I remembered my open office desk drawer and her strange questions about my multi-billion-dollar estate documents.

I pushed the door open.

'You won't need to call anyone, Genevieve.'

Her phone slipped from her hand, her face white with pure terror."
