Chapter 2: What Claudia Knows

Loretta's hands were shaking as she stared at the deed.
"This is a forgery," she said.
"Valentino, you wouldn't dare."
He didn't answer.
He just held Isolde closer.
Loretta's eyes moved to her granddaughter — not with guilt.
With something colder.
"That child has been manipulating you since the day she was born.
A brace, a limp, those tears — all performance."
Isolde buried her face in her father's shoulder.
Valentino's jaw tightened.
"Say one more word about her."
"Or what?" Loretta stepped forward.
"You think I don't know what your wife did before she d*ed?
I have letters, Valentino.
Letters that will destroy everything you think you know about that woman."
The room went still.
Valentino's expression changed — just for a second.
Something flickered behind his eyes.
Then Loretta smiled.
"Ask Claudia," she said quietly.
"She was there."
From across the hallway, Claudia appeared in the doorway.
Her face was pale.
Her hands gripped the frame.
She looked at Valentino — then down at Isolde — and said nothing.
But her silence said everything.
