Chapter 1: The Man Everyone Underestimated

"My ex-fiancée publicly humiliated me in a crowded ballroom, thinking I was completely helpless in my wheelchair.
Seconds later, I stood up on my own two feet.
Brooke stood at the center of the ballroom, laughing loudly with Chad.
She stared directly at me and sneered.
'Look at him, completely powerless,' she whispered to the crowd.
I sat quietly in my wheelchair, holding back my rage.
Everyone looked away, pretending not to notice my pain.
Then, a gentle voice broke through the noise.
Isabella, a young banquet attendant, moved forward with shaking hands.
'Are you okay, sir?' she asked softly.
I looked up at her, feeling a glimmer of hope.
'I stayed to see who was truly kind when I had nothing,' I said.
Silence settled over the room.
Carefully, I unbuckled my straps and rose from the wheelchair.
Brooke dropped her glass, her mouth hanging open in shock.
Chad stepped back, pale as a ghost.
I held out my hand toward Isabella with a quiet offer.
Before she could answer, a panicked waiter rushed through the doors shouting.
