Chapter 1: The Mother at the Door

My groom humiliated his poor elderly mother by throwing her out of our lavish wedding hall.
Seconds later, the manager revealed a truth about the venue’s payment that ruined everything.
Crystal chandeliers shone above our gleaming aisle as wealthy guests turned to stare.
My groom’s mother, Harold, waited near the entrance gripping a cheap gift bag in her trembling hands.
“Mom, don’t come closer,” Malik snapped in front of everyone.
“You’re embarrassing me.”
Silence, heavy as lead, swallowed the room.
Tears gathered in Harold’s tired eyes under the bright lights.
“I only wanted to see my son,” she whispered softly.
Malik’s jaw tightened, cold and unforgiving.
“Please leave,” he demanded.
“Don’t ruin this day.”
Humiliated, Harold lowered her head and slowly moved toward the exit.
Guests started whispering behind their hands while my heart sank into my stomach.
Suddenly, the wedding manager hurried down the aisle, pale and badly out of breath.
“Sir, there’s a massive problem,” he gasped.
“The payment was canceled.”
Malik glared at him in obvious frustration.
“What payment?”
The manager pointed a trembling finger toward Harold near the heavy glass doors.
“The entire million-dollar wedding,” he declared.
“The payment came directly from her bank account.”
Malik completely froze, staring at his mother’s back as the gift bag slipped from her hand.
