Chapter 1: The Red Heel

"My husband opened my private hospital-room door—and caught Isabella standing over me with one red heel pressed against my body while I lay on the marble floor shielding my seven-month pregnant belly.

"KHLOE!"

Isabella's face went white.

She pulled her foot away and stepped back as Marcus rushed toward us.

I could barely breathe.

But Isabella recovered fast.

She pointed at me and forced tears into her eyes.

"SHE FELL—I WAS JUST TRYING TO HELP HER."

Marcus looked at me.

Then at Isabella's red heel.

Then straight into her eyes.

She reached for his hand.

"Marcus, just listen to me—"

SL\*P!

Marcus struck her across the cheek.

"DON'T YOU DARE LIE TO ME!"

Isabella stumbled into the table, stunned.

For a second, nobody moved.

Then something shifted in her expression.

The fake tears disappeared.

Her eyes slowly lifted toward the corner of the ceiling.

And all the color drained from her face.

A tiny red light was blinking.

A security camera had been there the entire time.

Marcus hadn't noticed it yet.

But Isabella had.

And judging by the terror suddenly spreading across her face, whatever that camera had captured was about to expose far more than what Marcus had just witnessed.

Why was Isabella so terrified of that recording?

What had happened before Marcus opened the door?

And what else had the camera seen?
