Chapter 1: The Tradition No One Had Heard Of

My MIL crept up behind me at my wedding and c*t off my hair, claiming it was a “family tradition” — but my husband's reaction made her regret what she'd done.

Nick and I had been together since high school.

We deeply loved each other and knew we'd get married one day.

I got along nicely with Nick's family, except for his mother, Martha.

She had always hated me.

The thing was, Martha had a best friend who was extremely wealthy, and she'd long planned for Nick to marry her friend's daughter.

To her, I was always “poor,” “a terrible homemaker,” and “not good enough for her son.”

She repeatedly whispered in Nick's ear that he couldn't be with me because I wasn't worthy of him.

Nick tried reasoning with his mother, but she never listened.

Still, he tried to keep the peace.

He didn't want to fight with his mom.

Until one moment changed everything.

When our wedding day finally arrived, the ceremony went perfectly, and later, everyone was celebrating at the restaurant.

Nick and I stepped out onto the dance floor, and with the crowd and blaring music around us, I didn't even hear Martha come up right BEHIND ME.

All I felt was someone tugging on my hair, followed by the strange sound of scissors.

I turned around and nearly fainted when I saw Martha standing there HOLDING MY HAIR in her hand.

My hair had been long.

For the wedding, it had been styled into a lovely braid with flowers woven into it.

And now Martha was holding that braid in one hand and a pair of scissors in the other.

Oh my God.

She had C*T MY HAIR all the way up to my neck.

I screamed:

“What did you do?!”

She smiled and said:

“Honey, it's a family tradition.

In our family, the bride's hair gets c*t at the wedding.”

Every guest was staring at us.

Nick was in shock.

Obviously, NO ONE had ever heard of such a “tradition.”

I stood there crying.

And Martha just stood there laughing, saying:

“It's only hair.

It'll grow back.”

I was stunned by her audacity.

Then Nick disappeared for about ten minutes.

When he returned, he took my hand and asked all the guests to sit down because he had an IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT to make.

He picked up the mic and said:

“Dear guests, I forgot to mention that I invited a SPECIAL GUEST to our wedding.”

When he brought that GUEST into the restaurant, everyone gasped.
