Chapter 2: The Other Test

James's hands were shaking.
He read the document again.
Then a third time.
"Mom." His voice was low.
"What is this?"
Margaret straightened her dress.
"It's a mistake.
A clerical error.
Throw it away."
"It has Lily's name.

Margaret spoke first.

"Then why is he leaving?" I asked.
Lily tugged my sleeve.
"Mommy.
That man was talking to Grandma before she pushed me.
I heard him say my name."
Margaret's eyes moved to Lily for just a moment — not with anger this time.
With fear.
Gerald reached into his jacket.
He pulled out his phone, glanced at the screen, and said four words that made my blood go cold.
"The other test matched."
---
What does Gerald know — and what is the "other test"?
The truth behind Lily's birth is darker than anyone in that room expected.
