Chapter 1: The Child Left With Crusts

My new wife wasn’t only treating my daughter differently behind my back.

She had a hidden plan to make my little girl believe she no longer belonged in her own home.

I discovered it after seeing Maya alone in the living room, crying while eating someone else’s leftover pizza crust.

Meanwhile, a fresh pizza was sitting open for my stepchildren.

My wife hardly looked concerned.

“She already ate,” she said coldly.

“She always cries when she doesn’t get attention.”

Then her own son abruptly spoke up.

“That’s not true.”

My wife’s expression changed.

The boy reached into his pocket and handed me a tiny key.

“Mom said we’d get in trouble if you ever saw what’s in the drawer.”

She rushed forward.

I reached it first.

Inside the locked drawer was a secret phone.

I opened the messages—and one sentence made my stomach turn.

“Once Maya asks to live somewhere else, we’ll finally have this family to ourselves.”

I glanced up.

My wife was already backing toward the door.
